More on Will Power...
There was so much good dialogue generated on the last will power post that I wanted to share some of it with you.

One of our frequent visitors, Ms. Melissa shared that the tricky part about will power is using it in a way that is aligned with your higher self. I whole-heartedly agree. When will power is used to try and puff up the ego (ie. restricting oneself only to look perfect or working hard simply for power or money) it can actually undermine authentic growth and spiritual evolution. My experience is that if your will is not aligned with your higher self it is not sustainable and will eventually backfire.

Ms. Gabi - another wise one - shared that as a body worker, she has observed that a nice balance between core strength and core flexibility correlates with being both powerful and graceful in life (I'm paraphrasing). She suspects that over-developed core strength correlates with being too "guarded" with one's emotions and an underdeveloped core correlates with being too "open." Good stuff - I have a hunch that the same is true for will power. Too much will in the wrong areas suffocates life, while too little disperses it prematurely, leaving one powerless...

Finally, we had a new visitor named Vincent who left an insightful comment about the three levels of will. First, there's having the will to say "no" to what's bad for you - junk food, over-spending, etc. The second level is saying "yes" to what is good for you - exercising, saving, eating healthy. The third level is using your will to control your thoughts and emotions. When negativity takes over, he recommends stilling your body and thinking of nothing until the emotion dissipates. He goes on to say:

"When you've mastered all three levels of self control, a feeling so wonderful and strong persists inside. The feeling provides an incomparable joy, much greater than that Twinkie or new pair of shoes could ever temporarily disguise as. The feeling is not at all fleeting, but strong, whole and permanent. And fuels you with an unparalleled power."

Thanks guys - I'm truly inspired.

This is good advice! Sometimes it is hard to use your will power to say "no" to things even if you know they are bad for you. I found anotherblog site that gives some good advice in changing your attitudes about certain aspects of your life. For anyone interested, check out: http://lifequake.wordpress.com/

She gives some insight to Valentines day too!

The constant feeling of incomparable joy is just a byproduct of correctly channeled Power. When I refer to Power, I am referring to a Universal constant no different than the constant of Gravity or Electricity. Power surrounds and penetrates all of us. It’s application and channeling, like Gravity or Electricity, is solely and wholly dependent upon its wielder. Mother Teresa correctly channeled Power and helped the world; Hitler incorrectly channeled Power and nearly destroyed the world! How are you channeling Power? Or a more appropriate question may be, “Are you even aware of the Power within you?!?” Like Electricity, Power is open and available for you to utilize as you see fit; it responds to Universal Laws. These Laws can be learned and applied by anyone. And one of the Three Laws of Power is Self Control.

Now let me digress just a moment and make something perfectly clear. Just because the ability to learn how to apply the Three Laws of Power is easy, the actually application can be difficult. Let’s face it, Law 1, will power and self control, are not easily conquered by most. But the effort is worth it, OH YES IT IS WORTH IT… and circles back to the original query to this post, “I am so curious about this constant feeling of incomparable joy that I could burst!”. The individual exercise now becomes one of mastering the First Law of Power: Self Control.

Thanks for the perspective Vincent. Are the "Three Laws of Power" a concept you are developing or are you pulling from a specific philosophy?

My curiosity is for those who use the word "constant" in refering to their joyful state. I have had moments, hours, even days of joy streaming from what I believe is Positive Energetic Power (God -if you will)but...constant all the time...? Unfortunately no. Not yet at least.
As a matter of fact, I only know a couple of people who claim to feel constant joy.

I would be curios to see more information on "The Three Laws of Power".
Thanks again for sharing.

Good discussion Kim!

This reminds me of Eckhart Tolle's description of the 3 modes of being: acceptance, enjoyment, and enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is the highest and probably the most energetically charged, but you cannot remain there forever. Maybe there can be a constant sense of joy or peace, but just in varying degrees of intensity?

I am more than glad to share J

The “Three Laws of Power” are a fundemental foundation to enable and faciliate personal growth. Their successful employment in your life is a pre-requsite for future development. Let me put it another way. We are all farmers. And as farmers, we all have different crops we desire to cultivate. Some of us will plant wheat, others bananas and and others chocolate beans. Some of us will want to grow multiple crops. Whatever the harvest, as farmers we must ensure the soil is fertile. We’ve all heard farmers procliam expressions like, “Anything can grow here!”. That’s a testomony to their fertile soil. As such, the 3LP’s form the foundational basis for you to prepare the most fertile soil of your soul. Once employed, you can successfully plant and harvet any crop you desire.

The first LP is the self control, or will power, and it spans three levels. Each can be exponentially more difficult than that other, depending on the person. The first is will power not to do the things you know you should not be doing. Don’t eat this; don’t drink that; don’t buy those. The second level is the will power to do the things you know you should be doing. Get to the gym; finish this report; put that money in the bank. The third level is self control over negative emotions. This is usually the most difficult, because when fear, worry, anger or anxiety surface, it becomes all consuming.

-------------------------------------------
Self Control Tip: If you walk down the candy isle of the grocery store, you are much more likely to buy candy. Will power works the same way. If you allow your mind to stroll down the isle of temptation or negative emotions, you’re advocating mental window shopping… think about it! Instead, do not entertain these thoughts. Close the door, close the window and do not let them in.
-------------------------------------------

The second LP is Positive Thinking or Love. There have been a ton of great books on this subject from The Master Key System written in 1912 to its modern interpretation The Secret. As many reader are very familiar with the basic philosophy, I will not go into details in this blog. But I will emphasize that Positive Thinking is not a means to an end, but instead a component of a solid foundation. That is, manifestation of what we desire is impossible without an overall solid underpinning. The current proposition that all we have to do is think about wealth and tomorrow we’re all millionaires is seductive, but completely erroneous. Instead, Positive Thinking should be applied to foundational individual characteristics as a constituent of the 3LP’s.

-------------------------------------------
Positive Thinking Tip: Say out loud, and very loud, “I am…” then, as quickly as they come to mind, proclaim positive characteristics, like “Happy, Joyful, Confident, Whole”. Do this for 5 minutes at a time; repeating words is OK. Watch how great you feel afterwards!
-------------------------------------------

The third LP is Balance. I also like to refer to LP3 as “avoiding landmines”. That is, LP1 and LP2 are more easily embraced when you employ a Balanced lifestyle. At the high level, this means a Work-Life-Sleep Balance. But each of the tenants of Balance must also be Balanced. For example, repetition at work leads to boredom, so balance your work life to introduce a variety of projects, roles and responsibilities. Life also needs to be Balanced. Instead of that regular hike, read a book; instead of reading a book, learn to play the violin. The idea here is a recursive approach to a well Balanced lifestyle.

-------------------------------------------
Balance Tip: “Ruts” are usually formed out of fear. That is, the fear of the unknown. To introduce Balance to the main areas of your life, you’ll need to draw on a variety of options. To this end, embrace solutions out of your comfort zone. The next time you’re favorite restaurant, you know, the place where you always order the same dish, order something so different, you wouldn’t normally ever consider it. Now you’ve introduce more variety and Balance to Life!
-------------------------------------------

Of course, all Three Laws of Power work in concert as each one is dependent on the others. The 3LP’s will absolutely, irrefutably, and undeniably lay a solid foundation for you to build upon. Whether your crop is learning a new idea or flouishing an exisitng realtionship or discovering new expeiences, a mastering of the 3LP’s will greatly faciliate any endeveor. But be aware, if you ask that same farmer earlier, the one who so confidently proclaimed that he can grow anything easily in his soil, what preperation was necessary for such a boast of assurance, he would probably inform that he wakes at 3:30 AM every morning to till the fields and tend the crops. To correlate, while the 3LP’s may not be easy to consistrenyl incorporate in your life, their successful implementation will pay 1000x rewards for the effort. Just look at what the farmer has produced! What’s so inspriing is that to successfully master the 3LP’s does not require money, good looks or physical aptitude… it only requires hard mental labor… no short cuts. Henry Ford is quoted as observing, “Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is probably the reason why so few engage in it”. What I am trying to say is that YOU can master the 3LP’s… YOU are able to form the inner foundation to accomplish anything you so desire… but now ask yourself… are you WILLING?

Vincent - wonderful. What is even better than the philosophy itself (which is solid and profound) is that you embody it. We havn't met, of course, but your energy emanates integrity (integration of the psyche) and power (resulting spirit that can flow through.)

Thanks again for sharing your insights!
