Kindle
Have you heard of the Kindle? It's an electronic reading device developed and sold by Amazon. It is quickly catching on with avid readers. Last week I saw Jeff Bezos (Amazon Founder and CEO) in an interview speaking about the Kindle phenomenon.

The Kindle is a wireless, hand held reading device about the size of a book. The screen looks like book pages - antique white paper with black letters. You can download a book in 60 seconds from your couch or favorite reading chair.

I know this sounds like a commercial about Kindle, but I have not taken a marketing position with Amazon;) I am however, interested in how the magical device will change the evolution of book distribution. The books are a lot cheaper - The Energy Cure is 7.99 on Kindle versus 12.99 retail - and it's an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional printing.

So far there are 240,000 books available for the Kindle and more are being added each day. Bezos said his goal is to have every book ever written available for Kindle readers to access at any time. Cool huh!

So I've been following the Kindle and have two comments from actual users. First is from an executive in the technology field ( a colleague). He swears by his Kindle and finds it hard to buy 'traditional' books. The second user is an exec in the marketing field who says she misses the tactile experience of so-called traditional books.

In my opinion, it's not a competition. It's not Kindle vs. Paper Books. They both have their place. I would choose a Kindle to carry with me on a business trip, and choose a paper book to read on the beach.

Melissa - I like the name too! I'm not entirely on board yet, but am warming up the idea...

Vincent - this is great feedback. Although I havn't tried reading from a Kindle, I'd have to agree with your friend who's attached to the tactile experience of a book. I love books and am not willing to go electronic just yet. But I think it's great for readers that like it and get to read more because of it!

I've heard of this as well, my brother-in-law just got one.

I LOVE my books...their different shapes, sizes, smells, colors etc. and I am also a very tactile person (obviously...massage therapist here :)
So I intially did not like this idea, however...I also love the environment, in particular trees! So I will have to agree with Vincent and say yes to both options.

G. That actually sounds good to me too:) I like the idea of traveling with one.. It seems convenient. Also, maybe just buying the books I really want to own and reading the others on Kindle??
Who knows...
